Did Your Health Care Power of Attorney Expire?
From Mark J. Welch's Legal Advisory newsletter, Winter 1995
All "Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care" forms prepared before 1992 (and some newer) automatically expire seven years after signing. If your power of attorney will expire, you should fill out and sign a new Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care without any expiration. Also, in 1993 the "Directive to Physician" form was replaced with the "Natural Death Act Declaration," California's version of the "living will."
The California legislature made other changes to the Power of Attorney laws effective January 1, 1995, so be sure to use current forms.
